Podium joy for John McGuinness at Macau Grand Prix - Morecambe’s John McGuinness put in a superb ride on Saturday when he finished in third place in the Macau Grand Prix. Riding the Vent Axia/VK Honda Fireblade, the 36-year-old chalked up his 8th podium in 11 appearances at the 3.8-mile circuit, thus ensuring his up and down 2008 season ended on a high note.
Stuart Easton wins the 2008 Macau Grand Prix - Disappointment for Conor Cummins, Michael Rutter and elation for Stuart Easton: The Macau Grand Prix, as always, never disappoints for excellent racing and a twist of fate. Pole sitter and lap record holder Conor Cummins failed to finish after suffering mechanical problems on lap eight, whilst catching Stuart Easton and Michael Rutter.
Conor Cummins takes final Macau GP pole position - Conor Cummins fought off Michael Rutter during second qualifying for the Macau Grand Prix, to register a time of 2:26.58 seconds, pushing Rutter back to second place. This timestamp sets a new lap record, and puts Conor into pole position for the race. It was expected that Michael would take the lap record, but the fighting Manxman, on his second visit to Macau, had other ideas.
Michael Rutter on provisional pole at the Macau GP - British Superbike star Michael Rutter has taken provisional pole for the Macau Grand Prix, in his quest to take a record breaking seventh title on the streets at Macau. Casey Stoner wins MotoGP race of Valencia - The 18th and final race of the 2008 MotoGP World Championship would take place in Valencia, where the top riders would each look to leave the best impression going into the off-season. This race has been on the calendar since 1999, and is the third GP annually in Spain. Honda rider Dani Pedrosa was a home winner last year, and has the 2008 trophies from Spain and Catalunya.
Valentino Rossi wins Malaysian MotoGP race - Sepang in Malaysia was the venue for the 17th round of the 2008 FIM MotoGP World Championship, won this year by Yamaha man Valentino Rossi. The Italian had been first or second in the previous seven races, and he was clearly one of the favourites, especially with four previous wins at the circuit. But last year’s race was won by Casey Stoner, also a winner two weeks ago.
Casey Stoner wins home race in MotoGP - Valentino Rossi was World Champion again for Yamaha, after winning the MotoGP race at Motegi in Japan. But there were still three races left to run in 2008, which meant chances for his rivals to get one over on the Italian. Round sixteen in Australia was always going to be somewhere that local rider Casey Stoner would want to be on top for Ducati, as in 2007.
Valentino Rossi wins race and MotoGP title - Yamaha team leader Valentino Rossi was holding an 87-point championship lead after fourteen races in the 2008 MotoGP series. With four races left to run, the Italian needed only one more podium result to deny his nearest challenger and therefore secure his eighth GP title, and his sixth in the top class. The Japanese race at Motegi was the likely scene of Rossi’s historic achievement.
Valentino Rossi wins in washed out Indy GP - Valentino Rossi, rider of the Bridgestone-shod 800cc Yamaha YZR-M1 for the Fiat-backed works team in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship, was sitting pretty after three consecutive race wins. Rossi made history with his first Grand Prix victory at Misano, which put him 75 points clear of the nearest challenger. Now it was time for more history, with the first visit to Indianapolis.
Valentino Rossi wins GP at home in Misano - Valentino Rossi had established a fifty point advantage in the 2008 MotoGP World Championship, having won the Czech Grand Prix as Casey Stoner crashed and Dani Pedrosa was only fifteenth. The other main story from that event had been the way the Michelin tyres struggled compared to those from Bridgestone, and this trend was of major concern to those affected.
Leon Haslam’s first 2008 Superbike win at Knockhil - Airwaves Ducati rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne was still in control of the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship, but round seven at Oulton Park had seen a double win for Rizla Suzuki and rider Tom Sykes. With an advantage of almost 100 points, Byrne could afford to ease off a touch, but you would never expect him to make it easy for the young guns.
Tom Sykes a first time BSB double winner at Oulton - To date, the 2008 Bennetts British Superbike Championship has seen eight wins for Airwaves Ducati rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne. From twelve races, with his other results all being second, this meant a lead of almost 100 points for the 2003 champion. He won both the early season races at Oulton Park, and round seven was at the same venue.
Valentino Rossi wins Brno GP, Stoner is out - The 2008 US Grand Prix had seen Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi extend his MotoGP World Championship points lead to 25, with rivals Casey Stoner (Ducati) and Dani Pedrosa (Honda) having various difficulties. The Czech Republic race was round twelve, with Rossi a five-time former winner at Brno, Pedrosa with two successes and Stoner last year’s top man.

Valentino Rossi wins the GP at Laguna Seca - The three-way 2008 800cc MotoGP World Championship race had closed up again after the German Grand Prix, where Casey Stoner (with Ducati) won and Dani Pedrosa (with Honda) crashed. After ten races, Valentino Rossi (with Yamaha) was just twenty points ahead of third man Stoner. That event had been wet, but the contenders could surely expect different in round eleven.
Casey Stoner masters the rains in German GP - Two wins in a row had brought Ducati rider Casey Stoner back into contention not far behind MotoGP leaders Dani Pedrosa and Valentino Rossi. The German Grand Prix was round ten, and the Sachsenring race had been dominated by Pedrosa and Honda in 2007. Even with only two wins at this stage, his consistency this season has been the key to being on top - so far.
