AIR- Tight! The Photographer's Ephemeris - Adobe AIR: The Photographer's Ephemeris is an AIR app that every photographer should have on a computer and iPhone! Developed by Steven Trainor it helps the photographer analyze the exact sunlight, moonlight, sun/moon rise and set, and more for specific locations and times. You can plan for months ahead thousands of miles away. While it doesn't account for weather, it does offer a powerful, free tool for photographers.

5 Excellent ExpressionEngine Extensions - After recently building two websites in ExpressionEngine, I came across 5 extensions that proved to be quite helpful in putting together a great content managed site. FieldFrame – Allows you to create and add custom field types to ExpressionEngine such as [...]
Gianduia vs. Flash - Today, internet is full of stories about the Apple's secret weapon that will kill Silverlight, Java and Flash once and for all... Again! Sadly this is becoming sort of a cliche (of everyone wanting to kill Flash) and it's my second article in a row trying to give you a completely different point of view. [...]
5 Secrets of Linkbaiting - Image by Eric Rice via Flickr When it comes to search engine optimisation and driving quality traffic to blogs and Website, certain questions are asked over and over again. One thing I have realised is that if you really want to find a solution to low traffic problems, no advice should be discarded. This article would [...]
TOS changes should require publishing the diff - This is half rant / half proposal for a free business idea. I’ve gotten four emails in the past week from various entities (2 banks, 1 health insurance provider and 1 telephony carrier) that notify me of changes to their TOS (apparently I need to accept them if I want to continue being a [...]

IE and underscores in domain names - Ok, a short warning to those who use underscores in their domain names. Underscores you say? Aren’t they illegal characters in domain names? Why yes they are (but I think they’re valid in sub-domains…not sure), but you may find yourself using them in development environments, particularly if you’re doing a re-design. Think something like http://mysite_v2.local/ [...]
The Void - Icepick Lodge made something again. It’s called “The Void”, it’s ostensibly a video game, but it feels odd describing it as such. It plunks you into a world with no real-world parallel, where the rules are obfuscated, nothing is intuitive, characters treat you in part as a worker, a slave, a lover or any mixture, [...]
Flexicious Is An Impressive Flex DataGrid - Flexicious is an incredibly powerful, capable, and flexible data grid for Flex 3 and Flex 4. It supports filtering, paging, data export to Excel and Word, print and print preview, and much more. Demo online.
Laying Low for a Few Months… - Just a quick note that things may be pretty distant for the next few months. I’m on parental leave until mid-July and will have my hands tied up in baby business until then. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get some other things done as well. On the list right now: Get up to speed with Adobe CS5 releases. Prepare for upcoming Summer presentations at various conferences. Gather materials for the Community Compilation CD Project. (please spread the word!) Work on material for the “6 Threads” EP. Probably do some work here and there for the University of Denver. Continue working
Importing Camtasia:mac Audio - In a previous post I demonstrated how to directly import Camtasia:mac screen footage into your professional video tooling. There is a small caveat that I didn’t mention–Camtasia:mac stores microphone and sound card data in separate file streams. The relationship between these file streams and your recorder settings is somewhat obtuse–thus, the screencast presented here. After viewing [...]
Getting serial ports to work on Linux - Reading time: 4 – 6 minutes Photo by: lilit I’ve recently been “forced” to move my desktop from Windows to Linux again. Basically my current desktop “decided” it won’t support Windows anymore, and any attempt to start it ends up in a BSOD, and I just got fed-up of trying to get it to work. In fact, all [...]
Flash Builder and Facebook Communication - The Flex application you are going to build will display a logged in Facebook user information let’s say name, photo, and the users friends name list, and will use Flash Builder to create user interface to communicate with Facebook. As these articles is second part of the if you would like then you can get [...]
