Lung Cancer - Mom (73 years young) was diagnosed w/Lung Cancer. She smoked all of her life and now weighs only 90 lbs. She has less than 6 months and is now living in a rehabilitation facility. What are some of the things I can do for emotional support?

I am back----here we go again - to recap, both my parents were diagnosed with lung cancer on the same day last summer. My dad nsclc stage 4 with brain mets and my mom limited sclc. My dad had chemo, brain radiation and gamma knife, he was my hero, fought the battle with courage and dignity. Never really complained. My dad passed away on Jan 6th, 2011 and let me say it is not getting any easier with time. He was my hero, my best friend and i miss him terribly. My mom had chemo and lung radiation and her sclc was put into remission. We found out just before Christmas and it was the best news for my dad who was in palliative at this time. I think he was hanging on to hear she was ok. He used to say if it werent for his diagnosis my mom wouldnt have been checked out for her cough and it may have been too late. He really put a positive spin on his diagonosis and turned it around like it was a good thing..imagine that? Anyway my mom had her cat scan yesterday and the news  today was that the cancer is back and it's in her brain, two 4 cm tumors. They are offering 5 rounds of WBR to slow things down. Prognosis is 3- 4 months. The big question is does she go for it? We both saw what brain radiation did for my dad. He lost his sense of smell, taste, nausea, tired, ability to walk, ability to control bowels, bladder, and so on...Is it worth it to get an extra month at at what cost???

How do family & friends help someone complete their prescribed protocols? - Please, how to help people take their medicine? We have in our area a healer with a large following, He is an iridologist, nutritionist and herbalist. After Tarceva? Please share your experiences! - Hello Everyone, I was wondering if anyone could share their experiences with what drugs/treatments were potential options after Tarceva stopped working? And how successful or unsuccessful the particular treatment was?  Best wishes to everyone out there fighting this awful disease, stay strong! 

New here and just want to know - how long do people normally take Tareva for before building immunity to it? My DH was diagnosed in Dec.1st with stage 4 NSCLC. He started to take Tarceva on Feb. he got the rash, the runs and tummy problems. He's now been on the drug for a lil over 2 mo and still has all the symptoms. His rash is however, getting better and his face is clearing up especially around his eyes. I'm scared cause of the obvious but, also because he's got very poor eating habits. Loves the sweets and can't stay away from the dairy products which, is a no no with this drug. What changes have you made in your eating habits and in your opinion has that been helpful?

i am new here i am so scared - hello everyone my story starts 2 mos ago i had pneumonia i was coughing blood my dr put me on antibotics and took a xray that said pneumonia after a week 2nd xray had not changed i felt better but the xray stayed the same then the blood returned not so much anyway after 8 weeks the xray was still the same so thursdat the 24th of feb i was send to see a lung dr he did another xray still the same he said i have clubbing and that he is sure i have cancer i go for a ct scan this week can he be wrong please i want some kind of hope i have smoked for years i did lose weight but tryed to didnt know this was going to happenalso have had trouble with eyes for over a year not sure if that means anything any advice would help i am scared to death cant sleep thank you so much

Size of Nodules - Hi All, Just wondering if the size of the nodule is an indication if it is cancer or not.   I know a true diagnosis depends on a biopsy.   My husband has 3 nodules that range in size from 10 - 13 mm that are being monitored. Since he is in remission for a primary brain cancer, they have been monitoring these nodules for the past year and they are growing slightly.  His only symptom that I can figure out, is recurring infections.  Whenever, he gets a slight cold it turns into bronchitis or even pneumoia and has to take a strong antibiotic to get rid of it. We have an appt on Friday with the pulmologist and would appreciate any suggestions for questions. Just not sure about this.. any thougths or comments would be greatly appreciated. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS? - I had a VATS wedge section removed from the left lower lobe. Chest tube was removed 2 days after surgery, I am home now, but have had to return to my Dr.s office almost on a daily basis for dressing changes due to what I'm terming as excessive drainage. (Surgery post op will be 1 week as this Wednesday.) I had a surgery on the opposite side 1 yr. ago, where I had a chest tube also, but did not experience any post op drainage as am experiencing this time.  Has anyone out there experienced anything similar? Or is this just the norm for this type of procedure? Would greatly appreciate any and all input.  

Coughing and phlegm - My dad who is 80yrs old has non small cell cancer which the doctors will not treat so he has to live with his pain.I would like my dad to have as comfortable life that is left to him that is possible but he is coughing an awful lot and cannot bring any mucus and the little that does come up is so very thick.It realyy is upsetting him and the doctors dont seem to be able to help,Can you??? Looking for discussion with someone that has had lung lobe removed - Hi   I have been on a 8 mo.journe y and recently discovered I have stage 111a non small cell cancer.  Finally, been awhile, I will have a meeting next week to discuss with a surgeon.  Never was referred to an oncologist.  I want straight answers.  I was a smoker for 45 years, and it has caught up with me, I knew it probably would.  Hoping someone can enlightened me somehow.
