We also discuss the mutually beneficial relationship of an agency and in-house marketer, and how the two together can create stellar SEO plans that actually strengthen the strategy versus just having one or the other working on the plan. Today, we’re going to talk about the development of Internet marketing globally with some additional thoughts on the topic by Bruce Clay. We'll look at how the progression of the discipline varies from country to country, but almost always follows a pendulum-type swing from full-service agency to consulting and back again, as the knowledge and skills transfer from the experts to the in-house marketer. Why Online Ads Are Less Annoying and More Profitable than Other Ads - Billboards.TimesSquare.NYC.14feb03We live in a consumerist world. Everywhere we look, someone is trying to sell us something. The world tells me I need at least 100 new things on a daily basis. Lucky for most of us, we’ve learned how to tune out the noise, which is why targeted online advertising is a savior for many businesses. Mostly, I just ignore ads. But, on occasion, I might like to know that there is a deal happening at the local spa versus a discount on power tools at the hardware store. This is the reason advertising on the Web using tactics like pay per click is a hundred times better than other types of advertising, and why companies should invest in it to replace some of their stale old ad campaigns. We all have a great sense of humor, and there’s not a day that goes by that you don’t hear laughter. This week, I thought we’d take a journey into some of the joy the BCI staff brings to each other. First and foremost, it was my one-year anniversary here this week, and Susan brought me cake. But not just any cake. It was red velvet cake (my absolute favorite) from Nothing Bundt Cakes. Susan has been talking about this place since I came here, and this week, I discovered why a hole in the middle of a cake is a magical thing (frosting well!). Google Autocomplete Suggestions and the Meaning of Life - What is theThe world thinks Google is their personal diary and best friend. If you don’t believe me, just look at any number of the autocorrect suggestions in a Google search query and you’ll find everything from profound to ridiculous questions about life and even statements that come from the heart. It’s almost as if the world believes Google is listening, and can somehow unlock the secrets to life. Yesterday, Danny Sullivan published a post on how Google Instant autocomplete suggestions work. In my dream world, autocorrect staff at Google really does exist. But alas, it’s based on calculations and stuff. Today, I want to give some commentary on Danny’s article, talking about some of the factors he points out influence autocorrect paired with some examples of my own; briefly discuss Google’s stance and responsibility in protecting certain groups from slander in the suggestions; and finally, dive into the minds of searchers everywhere, with some autocomplete fun.
